Give each person on your team only what they need

A waiter does not need your accounts, and a cashier should not be able to give a free meal alone. Roles make that simple: each person signs in with their own login or PIN and sees only what their job needs.

Start with four roles

• Waiter: take orders and send them to the kitchen.
• Cashier: also takes payments and prints bills.
• Kitchen: sees tickets and marks them ready.
• Manager: approves discounts, voids and refunds.

Make risky actions need a manager

Big discounts, free items and cancelling a dish that is already being cooked should ask for a manager’s PIN. Everything is recorded with the person’s name, which is usually all the deterrent you need.
